HAT'S OFF...

to Nisha and Anthony who made it possible for me to have some old familiar OC food this weekend. After a long Saturday at Magic Mountain, it was nice to have a relaxing trip to the citrus district to unwind. The food Saturday was horrible as expected, 2 servings of Denny's and one of theme park crap made this trip to the Hat even more special (though tough, mainly on my arteries).
Haven't broken in the sandals lately, even though La Jolla is all sun, Orange county is all rainbow.
Thanks to Nisha for that hour drive, just glad that though she was repaying Anthony a favor, that I get the perks free of charge.
To the main course, The Hat. Once you walk in the restaurant it's obvious there are dedicated customers and for a reason. The simple design and great food has remain the same for over half a century. Coming to the Hat, especially the one in Lake Forest, I always have to get the pastrami dip. The double bagged, behemoth of a sandwich eliminates all traces of hunger and healthiness.

It is quite refreshing to be in Lake Forest, not to knock on San Diego and La Jolla but Lake Forest is one of the few places I can call home and be comfortable about it, though I am getting used to calling myself a San Diegan.
After an overload of french fries and enough onion rings to put a child to sleep, we realized there was more food. This was anything but a rarity, I can't remember the last time I finished a sandwich and onion rings from the Hat in one sitting. Even telling me to 'kill it' didn't work this time, I was beginning to worry for my health as the memory of Denny's began to dull my left arm.
Even though stuffed to the brim with food, we couldn't pass up seeing a famous bakery, that I just recently heard of, Cafe Blanc.
This Japanese owned dessert store was way too good to pass up, and I do love myself some tiramisu. It inspires me that some people have such talent when it comes to cooking, one thing I probably will never be able to master.
This is a familiar drive to any Orange county resident that has ever left their house.
Ah yes the beach, and not any other old beach, Laguna Beach.
I'm not going to lie, the sand in La Jolla is much softer, the sky in Laguna isn't any bluer, and I especially don't care much for the rich, haughty society that is driven by self-absorbance and decadance here in Laguna, but there's just something very enjoyable about Orange County beaches.
This day in particular it was the kids running around and the people just being people.
This was one of my favorite photos of the day, you're bound to see it again, trust me.
I'm back in SD now and more content than ever, I enjoy getting these brief meetings with the OC because too much of it is a bad thing.

P.S. Thanks for not including the "BLLLEEEH"-inducing photo you took of me.
